RUSSIAN BOGATYRS SETS THE PACE ALSO IN PUNTALDIA

Puntaldia (Olbia), 25th May 2019 - After the no race of yesterday set by the lack of wind, the second leg of the European Melges World League was launched today on the race course of Puntaldia, where three races were held in a South-Easterly breeze blowing at around 7 knots. The instability of the breeze, together with the total newness of the race course of Puntaldia, where the Melges 20 sailors had never sailed before, made the tactical choices from today particularly difficult. 

The script, at least for now, seems to be the same as in Villasimius, with Russian Bogatyrs, number one in the world ranking and winner of the event of Villasimius, continues to set the pace by imposing its superiority: Igor Rytov and his men, at the end of the three races of today, gain the leadership of a ranking that is still very open to any revolution with the races of tomorrow. Russian Bogatyrs is in fact the leader but on equal points with an increasingly convincing crew, the Argentine Boogie 2.0 of Pierluigi Giannattasio with Giulio Desiderato on tactics (4-3-5 his partial scores) while the reigning World Champions on Italians Stig by Alessandro Rombelli (with Victor Diaz de Leon) chases just 3 points from the leading pair.

The challenge on the race course of Puntaldia begun today with the success of Stig in the first race, followed by the bullet in the second race of the Russian Pirogovo by Alexender Ezhkov. Third winner of the day is the Corinthian team Siderval from Marco Giannini that, with this result, confirms the increased level of his crew.

Tomorrow, the final day of racing will designate the name of the winner of the second Act of the Melges 20 World League, hosted in Puntaldia.
