MELGES WORLD LEAGUE 2022: THE CHALLENGE STARTS TOMORROW WITH THE MELGES 20 CLASS

Marina di Scarlino (Grosseto), 7 April 2022 - Everything is ready on the regatta course of the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana in Marina di Scarlino for the first challenge in the long season of One Design Melges World League regattas.

From Friday to Sunday in the Melges World League Tuscany Grand Prix, on what is unanimously considered one of the best racing spots in the Mediterranean, two of the three protagonist classes of the Melges World League 2022 season will compete with the champions of Melges 14 and of the Melges 20; awaiting the debut of the Melges 32 fleet that will enter the Melges World League starting from the next appointment, in the Adriatic, in Porto San Giorgio (from 5 to 8 May).

The Marina di Scarlino Grand Prix will therefore begin to reveal the names of the contenders for the circuit title for the Melges 20 class: the same names that this year may also aspire to give the race to the world crown that will be awarded in Italy, in September, in Puntaldia, Sardinia. The virtual pole position this season obviously goes to the veteran Fremito d'Arja of Dario Levi (with Stefano Cherin from Trieste calling tactics) the holder of the Melges World League who presents himself at the start as the team to beat and as a reference point for everyone.

In addition to the pure competitive aspect, the first event of the Melges World League season will kick off a renewed and unprecedented path to promote the increasingly urgent and fundamental issues relating to environmental sustainability and sea defense; content that has always been present in the philosophy of all Melges World League events and of all Melges classes. These, in fact, were among the signatories of the first hour, in 2017, of the Charta Smeralda, the ethical code of conduct to protect the environment and the sea, considered as the reference point for all operators in the "sailracing" and non-sailracing world. A commitment from Melges Europe and all its sailors that will allow the message of One Ocean Foundation to be conveyed to each location hosting the Melges World League events, with particular regard to the new generations.
An action of the Melges world that is carried out at its best thanks also to the full involvement and synergy with all the partners of the circuit and host yacht clubs who share the same mission with Melges: to create the best possible event for racers and for the sea.

The first warning signal for the Melges World League season is set for the Melges 20 on Friday 8 April at 13.00

The Melges World League 2022 counts on the support of: Helly Hansen, Quantum, North Sails and Garmin, as well as the technical partners Free Ride Cosmetics, Equilibra, Rigoni di Asiago, Revì, Acqua Cedea, Azienda Agricola il Ponte, Birrificio Petragnolo, Dai Dai , La Bellanotte, Sabatini Gin, Caffè Toscano, FoodNess and le Formiche di Fabio Vettori.
