Melges World League, Villasimius immediately shows its best. Raya is on top of the standings

Villasimius (Italy), 27 August 2021 - Spectacular debut in Villasimius for the fourth annual event of the Melges World League circuit which, in a season that started in April in the waters of Scarlino and has already passed through Cala Galera and Lake Garda, is now moving in the waters of Sardinia where, at the end of the season, the Melges 32 World Championship (in Villasimius, from 1st to 4th September) and the Melges 20 European Championship (in Puntaldia, from 22nd to 25th September) will also be disputed.

The consistent wind up to 25 knots and a very steep wave characterized the first day of regattas: two races completed for the Melges 20 fleet and an excellent opportunity, for the Melges 32, to test the race course in view of the start of their competition, scheduled for tomorrow at 13.00.

After the first day, the leader of the Melges 20 ranking is Matteo Marenghi Vaselli's Raya who, assisted in the tactical choices by Giulio Desiderato, read well today's demanding conditions and conquered the top of the standings. In second place, on the equals with Raya, an extremely consistent Nika by Vladimir Prosikhin, who seems to have all the credentials to once again be among the leaders of the fleet and bring home important results from this event that serves as a preamble for the European Championship.

Three points behind, third place for Russian Bogatyrs by Igor Rytov, while Hubex and Fremito d’Arja, current circuit leader, complete the top-five.

Marco Giannini's Neodent proceeds at a fast pace and sets the rhythm in a rather homogeneous Corinthian fleet: Neodent is sixth overall and boasts a six-point advantage over the first rival in the ranking reserved to non-professionals, Bianca Limonta's TeamBianca, ninth overall and on equal points with B.Lex, in turn one point ahead of Stefano Visintin's Kindako, eleventh overall and fifth Corinthian.

The races of the Melges World League - Sardinia Rally, organized by Melges Europe with the precious support of Legna Navale Italiana - Villasimius and Marina di Villasimius will resume tomorrow at 10.30 for the Melges 20. At 13.00 it will be time to go into the water also for the Melges 32.
