MELGES WORLD LEAGUE - ARGENTARIO RALLY

Melges Argentario Rally, Tavatuy wins among the Melges 32
For the Melges 14 and Melges 20 fleets one more day of racing to discover the winners

Cala Galera (GR), June 19, 2021 - The light breeze sets the pace of the second event of the Melges World League, the Argentario Rally, hosted in Cala Galera thanks to the joint organization of Melges Europe, Circolo Nautico e della Vela Argentario and Marina di Cala Galera. The conditions, despite being timid in terms of wind intensity, during the three days completed so far have put the crews to the test with often complicated tactical choices, based on the fine line between light wind and persistent current.

In the Melges 32 fleet, the great experience gained over the years on the race courses of this well-established one design has allowed Tavatuy by Pavel Kuznetsov to put the seal on the first leg of the Melges 32 World League 2021: the complete series of eight regattas, expertly directed by PRO Maria Torrijo, highlighted a Melges 32 fleet that is competitive and more homogeneous than ever. Tavatuy emerged with three first and three second places in the scoreline, but all the other crews finished at least one race of the series in first or second place, proving the balance of the Class and the possibility for everyone to reach the top.

The silver medal went to Arpad Schatz's Farfallina, rookie in the Class in 2020, undisputed leader of the final day where he scored the victory in both races, on equal points with Pippa by Lasse Petterson, third overall. In the Corinthian division, reserved to non-professional sailors, the very young German crew aboard Heat got the victory.

Second day of Argentario Rally instead for the Melges 20 fleet, which in today's light breeze completed two tests, respectively won by Dario Levi's Fremito d'Arja, already winner of the first event of 2021 in Scarlino, and  Raya by Matteo Marenghi Vaselli. With today's partials, which are added to the three regattas already completed yesterday, the aforementioned Fremito d'Arja and Raya lead the ranking in first and second place respectively, followed by the reigning world champions on Filippo Pacinotti's Brontolo.

Marco Giannini's Neodent controls the Corinthian ranking, followed by Benedetta Iovane's B.Lex and Bianca Limonta and Davide Castelli's Team Bianca.

The races of the Melges 14 fleet, which in Cala Galera drew helmsmen from all over Italy, also started today. In control of the ranking after the first three regattas is Davide Di Maio, followed with three points of delay by Alessio Muciaccia and Gustavo Vianna on equal points.

While the Melges 32 fleet, after the prize giving ceremony, is preparing to leave the moorings looking towards Malcesine, host location of the next stage of the Melges World League, the Melges 20 and Melges 14 are preparing to go out on the water tomorrow, at 11, to complete the last races of their series and to determine the names of the winners of the Argentario Rally.
