Melges 20 World Championship, Brontolo is on top of the World

Cala Galera, 10 October 2020 - The World Title of the Melges 20 Class remains in Italy: following the success of Alessandro Rombelli in Miami in 2019, this year the winner is Filippo Pacinotti's Brontolo Racing.

The crew of Pacinotti, protagonist of a series of extremely consistent regattas for the entire duration of the event (1-1-2-1-2-4-1-1-DNC the partials of the series) won the World title with a race to spare, leaving 21 points behind Russian Bogatyrs by Igor Rytov and Fremito d'Arja by Dario Levi. The latter secured the third step of the podium only at the end of the very last race of the series .

Brontolo, already European Champion in 2019 in Malcesine, set his pace since the very first race, proving to be able to perfectly read the varied weather conditions that characterized the week on the Argentario promontory, scoring a flawless series.

Filippo Pacinotti, on the sidelines of the prize giving ceremony, commented: “We are proud to have achieved this important result, also thinking that until a few months ago it seemed unlikely to be able to return to racing in such a complicated year. The Melges 20 is confirmed as always a fun boat and the fleet is exciting, there is a lot of battle on the water but then sportsmanship and sharing prevail ashore. My heartfelt thanks certainly goes to my crew who, after the important victory of the European title last year in Malcesine, this year took me up here. Thanks therefore to Manuel, Federico and my son Andrea, whose presence managed to make the flavor of this victory even sweeter”.

The battle was also heated in the Corinthian division, reserved for non-professional sailors: on the eve of the last regatta of the series, Siderval and B.Lex were competing for the world title on equal points. In the last, decisive, regatta, Marco Giannini's Siderval definitely set the pace, establishing himself as the winner of the race and thus securing the victory of the Corinthian title.

The marina of Cala Galera will host the Melges 20 fleet also for the last event of the year 2020 scheduled from 20 to 22 November which will decide the winner of the Melges World League 2020 circuit.
