Melges World League, the Argentario is preparing for an October of great regattas: it starts on Wednesday with the Melges 20 World Championship

Cala Galera (GR), 5 October 2020 - The one design sailing season organized by Melges Europe, after an intense tour around Italy, is getting ready to sail on the waters of Argentario and in particular in Marina di Cala Galera which, in the month of October, will be the guest of the two final events of the 2020 calendar.

After a few years of absence from the Argentario Peninsula, which last hosted the Melges 32 World Championship in 2017, the Melges fleets are now returning to Cala Galera also thanks to the strong organizational impulse of the owners Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (Melges 32 G-Spot) and Benedetta Iovane (Melges 20 B.Lex).

Competition starts on Wednesday 7 October with the Melges 20 World Championship, and then continues at the end of the month with the final act of the Melges 32 World League circuit, which will crown the winner of the 2020 season.

The spotlight this week is therefore on the Melges 20 fleet which, at the end of four days of racing during which up to ten races can be held, will crown its World Champion. The level of the regattas promises to be once again high and balanced, with all the top teams ready to compete for the world title.

The winner of the event will succeed in the roll of honor of the Melges 20 World Champions to Stig by Alessandro Rombelli, winner in Miami in 2019. The last World Title awarded in Italy is the one won by Drew Freides' Pacific Yankee, in the World Championship of Cagliari 2018.

Thanks to the hospitality of the Club Nautico e della Vela Argentario and Marina di Cala Galera, both regattas will be held in full compliance with anti-Covid regulations. The organization by Melges Europe has in fact required even stricter protocols than those prescribed by the Italian Sailing Federation, with the aim of carrying out events that are a pleasant moment of sportsmanship for everyone, lived in complete safety..
